How will I work with your children and teens?
I have vast experience working with children, and I understand that they may not be interested in sitting and talking for 50 minutes. I focus on making therapy comfortable for both children and adults. My approach to working with your children is very activity based. My individualized and tailored approach continues with kids and teens using techniques such as games, art, collage making, music, media, books and much more. I believe that there are multiple ways for children to express themselves, so I strive to provide them with the means to allows them to do so. This also allows you and your family to use skills and hobbies you already have in new and useful ways to help you rebuild and redefine your life during difficult times.
What ages do we work with?
I am trained to work with kids ages 5 years old through high school.
What role do the parents play in their child's therapy?
It is important to me to create a safe and confidential space for your child and teen. One of my main goals is for them to feel comfortable. But another goal is for the parents to play an active role in their child's therapy. I feel that a team approach between the child, parent and their counselor is the best way to achieve goals and create the changes you would like to see for your child. This means that as your counselor, I will ask for frequent updates on how things are going at home and I in return will also provide updates on what your child is working on in therapy.
Do we offer after school appointment times?
Yes. As a mom as well, I know that families are very busy. So I offer afternoon and evening appointments 3 days a week. I occasionally offer Saturday appointments as well.
